Deadly Peril by Lucinda Brant Shelley gave 4 stars to Deadly Peril (Alec Halsey Mystery, #3) by Lucinda Brant
bookshelves: to-read, audio, historical, mystery
I listened to the audio version of this book, and the narrator is amazing. One of my favorites.
This is another exciting addition to the Alec Halsey mystery series, and I enjoyed the twist at the end. As always, the period details place the reader/listener firmly into the 18th century, and it was interesting that the story took place in Europe rather than England.

One thing that irked me in this particular book was the number of times the author intruded into the story by saying, "Of course he'd wish he never made this decision once he realized the consequences." and variations of the same. It isn't necessary to warn the reader. This sort of intrusion just pulls the reader out of the story. Let us discover what happens along with the character.

I felt Emily, one of the minor characters, acted weirdly once it was discovered she was safe, however, I reminded myself that she is young and her lack of maturity and concern was because of her age. It was good to see Alec had a happy ending to this adventure. He deserves it!
